Now Open for Business: 14 and Hudson in Piermont and Sweet Pea’s Cafe in New Windsor

A new bistro and a revamped café expand dining options on the west side of the river

With a mother who was passionate about what her 14 (yes, 14!) children put into their tummies, it’s no wonder Eric Woods grew up with an interest in creating mealtime delights. The CIA graduate opened the kitchen and bar 14 & Hudson last year with his wife, Paula Clemente Woods. The duo dish out New American meals, like Korean steak bao buns and the fan-favorite Baja fish taco. The relaxed and inviting atmosphere features artwork by local artists, and an intimate upstairs space is regularly transformed for a variety of soirees.

If Fleetwood Mac or Green Day had a regular hangout spot in the Valley, Sweet Pea’s Café would be it. “It’s all good” is the motto at this small eatery in New Windsor, which reopened in March 2014 after a devastating fire. The funky, feel-good atmosphere welcomes patrons for breakfast and lunch with whimsically named (mostly after pop and rock songs) menu options like the “Born to be Wild” breakfast burrito and the “Don’t Stop Believing” grilled chicken sandwich. Clearly, owner Kim McDonnell believes in healthy options that can still be hearty, delicious — and fun. Cozy up in one of the plush chairs with a coffee or cappuccino while listening to live music on Saturdays.
