Skytop Steakhouse and Brewing Company, Kingston

The best brews and news to come out of Kingston’s Skytop Steakhouse and Brewing Company in 2013

As the name implies, beer is not the raison d’être here. In fact, Skytop not only puts food first, it also serves — get ready — wine and (gasp!) bottles of Bud and Corona!

But before your hophead explodes, read on: Skytop makes this list because it carries fine, hand-crafted brews from the hand of John Eccles, brewmaster both here and at Hyde Park Brewing. Depending on the day, you might find any or all of Eccles’ creations: the light Big Easy Blonde Lager, the malty Rough Rider Red Lager, the Chaos Dry Irish Stout, or perhaps Mary P’s Porter. There’s also Barrel 9, a rotating brew that features seasonal beers or whatever Eccles wants to try at the moment. You will almost certainly find his signature pour, the Winkle Lager, a Bohemian pilsner that is usually at both locations.

So if you can ignore the guy next to you with the Heineken, this is the place in Kingston for good food, live music, occasional comedy shows, and great local beer. 845-340-4277; www.skytop.moonfruit.com
