Wedding Gifts for Second Weddings and Renewal of Vows

Many couples opt to elope and host a delayed reception. For ceremonies like these — and second weddings — is it appropriate to give a gift?

The Wedding Guru says: Elopements are not unusual — just like it’s not unusual for bridal couples who elope to decide later on to have a “real” ceremony and reception that they can share with friends and family. A gift for a second wedding is optional; for those who sent a gift after the couple’s elopement, another gift is absolutely not necessary. However, in the case you mention, there really isn’t a second wedding, but rather a delayed one. If you didn’t give a gift when they eloped, it would be nice to give one this time!

For information about “real” second weddings, check out’s article “Here Comes the Bride, Again.”
