Honoring a Loved One: If Dad Passes Away, Who Walks the Bride Down the Aisle?

Dear Hudson Valley groom: According to strict etiquette, the invitation should read from her mother. Some families also include the parents of the groom on the invite. Your fiancée can make mention of her father at one of several other junctures during your ceremony. The “memorial mentions” can involve lighting a candle, a moment of silence, reading a poem, or even a special reading. Whatever makes the bride and her family feel comfortable will be fine.

As far as walking the bride-to-be down the aisle, a close male relative can substitute. An uncle, a brother-in-law, or a cousin would be good choices. Your future bride is fortunate to have a caring life partner. Much good luck to you both!
