A Day at the Beach
The Wedding Guru Judy Lewis fields this week’s wedding questions. Today: A Day at the Beach
Yolanda asks: “I’m having a destination-wedding and inviting my guests to celebrate with us on a Caribbean island. I know the trip will be a burden for at least some of my guests and I’m worried that — because of this — they might not attend. Any ideas about what to do?”
Dear Yolanda: Tell your guests that you’ll “count” their attendance in lieu of a wedding gift. You’ll have to think of a way to very clearly convey that message in your invitation. You can also call your travel agent and see if booking through them will get you better “group rates” for guests flying from the same general location. Assuming that you are not in a position to pay for the airline tickets, how about picking up some part of the hotel stay tab? You can even extend the weekend by paying for an extra day or two; It’ll make it a mini-vacation for your guests.
