Happy New Year! Here are a few short questions with equally short answers:

The Wedding Guru says: There really isn’t a rule about whose name goes on the check. Unless you know that the couple has a joint bank account, the best thing to do is to address the check to the one whose name you’re sure of.

A Hudson Valley asks: “My boyfriend and I are into doing everything we can that’s ecologically positive. I know he’s about to buy me an engagement ring — and he’s stuck on how that can fit into our green lifestyle.”

The Wedding Guru says: Encourage him to look for a jeweler who uses recycled stones and metals, which in turn, can be used to create a new piece of jewelry. Or suggest that he buy a vintage or antique ring, which, of course, is reusable and sustainable.
