Inviting Guests When Your Wedding Venue is Out-of-State

You don’t want to leave close friends off the guest list, but when your wedding location is a bit of a hike, what do you do?

If marriages mark the union of families, you’ll want to start off on the right foot with the in-laws (or future in-laws).

Dear Wedding Guru:
“My son and his girlfriend have been dating awhile — her parents are great people.
I’m getting married for the second time and it’s out of state, so it will be a significant expense for them to attend. Should I invite them?”

The Wedding Guru says:

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Yes, you should invite your son’s girlfriend’s parents — allow them to decide whether or not to attend. If you’re pretty sure that it’ll be a financial burden, or you’re sure they’ll say “no,” then why not invite them to a dinner at your home? (And, of course, invite your son and his girlfriend.)
