1677 Huguenot Wheat Beer Debuts in New Paltz

Historic Huguenot Street and Gilded Otter present their brand-new brew on August 29 in New Paltz

Beer-lovers and history buffs, grab your glasses — a new brew is coming to town!

On Saturday, August 29, New Paltz’s Historic Huguenot Street and Gilded Otter Brewery host the debut tapping of their latest collaboration, 1677 Huguenot Wheat. Inspired by early 18th-century beer, the ale recipe was researched by Craig Gravina, Drink Drank blogger, co-author of Upper Hudson Valley Beer, and founder of the Albany Ale Project. Longtime Gilded Otter brewmaster, Darren Currier, has the honors of crafting the new ale.

“Darren and Craig are very knowledgeable about Hudson Valley brewing, and we know this historic ale will be both authentic and delicious,” says Kara Gaffken, Director of Public Programming at Historic Huguenot Street. “Partnering with a local business makes so much sense for New Paltz, and it reinforces our special, small-town feel.”

Guests will have the opportunity to sip the new beer (the first 50 attendees also nab a complimentary tasting glass) and nosh on homemade pretzel rolls and croissants, courtesy of Twisted Jeanne’s in Accord. After the tasting, Gravina discusses the making of the 1677 Huguenot Wheat ale, as well as signs copies of his book ($19.99, plus tax).
