New York Fashion Week Runway Review: Tocca “Kaleidoscope” Collection Spring 2013
The Girl in the Check Scarf reviews the Tocca "Kaleidoscope" Spring 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week
Black clothes make up my wardrobe almost entirely. I’m not sure why this is, but it’s been that way for years now. For some reason, it’s my go-to color, and I don’t see myself changing anytime soon. It has its advantages and its downsides. The great thing about having so many black clothes is that everything in my closet matches! But the downsides include having to work on putting looks together that don’t look too stuffy or serious (after all, I am 17). That is exactly why I loved the Tocca collection so much. Head-to-toe black looks were here, there, and everywhere, but all of them were fun, youthful, and absolutely darling.
The collection, entitled “Kaleidoscope,” was inspired by old photographs of chevron-printed balloons and translucent vintage
The presentation set-up was one of the most original ones I’ve ever attended. To show the clothes at every possible angle, models were shown inside two mirrors. This created a trippy, even dizzying effect, but it perfectly represented the kaleidoscope idea.
The clothes were soft, feminine, and beautiful, featuring various tones of pinks, bold blues, and deep yellows. Greatly inspired by hot air balloons, chevrons, diamonds, and zig-zags were seen on multiple dresses, often shown in lace inserts. The collection was influenced by menswear tailoring, which was well represented in a cobalt blue suit. All in all, it was a dreamy, psychedelic, beautiful collection, and it definitely made a Tocca fan out of this girl! You can also find additional looks that weren't featured in the presentation here.
P.S.: In just about every photo, you’ll see a girl with an iPad and a oversized white blouse. Sorry to photobomb, but yours truly couldn’t get a picture without being in it!
