The Westchester Review Celebrates its Fifth Anniversary

The Westchester Review literary journal celebrates its fifth birthday with scheduled readings

It seems like yesterday that I was telling you about The Westchester Review, Westchester County’s newest literary journal. This month, the journal put out its fifth issue. Happy anniversary, Westchester Review!

“We are very proud of the diversity of literary talent and interests that it represents,” says Lesleigh Forsyth, a member of the Review’s editorial board.

As well they should be. This installment’s contributors include a Pushcart Prize nominee; a writer who’s appeared in both the New York Times and Glamour; an artist represented at the MoMA; an arts and entertainment editor from the Scarsdale Inquirer; a doctor who’s been published in the antithesis of a literary journal, the New England Journal of Medicine; and a bookbinder/writer.

The content of the journal is pretty varied. It includes a story in “abecedarian” form (where each sentence begins with the succeeding letter of the alphabet), poems published posthumously after the poet’s widower found a stack of unpublished works, and even a Q&A with poet Billy Collins.

See the Westchester Review’s Web site for more info on where to find a copy. Hopefully, it’ll be available on Amazon soon, like the others.

But for our money, the best way to hear some of these stories is at one of these upcoming readings. The first is this Sunday at the Hudson Valley Writers’ Center. It’s part of the Center’s “small press celebration,” with other readers from Inkwell, Toadlily, and the Center’s own Slapering Hol Press.

Here’s the full list of readings:

Sun., Aug. 7, 4:30 p.m. @ Hudson Valley Writers’ Center, Sleepy Hollow
Sun., Sept. 18, 4 p.m. @ Larchmont Public Library, Larchmont
Weds., Sept. 21, 7 p.m. @ White Plains Public Library, White Plains
