It’s no secret that the Hudson Valley is packed to the brim with creative minds. With West End Lofts in Beacon, there’s even more of a calling for the arts. Located minutes away from Beacon’s Main Street and Metro-North train station, the city's new residential community is made for creatives.
With 50 artist spaces in the LEED-certified buildings, the Lofts offers a mix of modern one- or two-bedroom residences. The 12-foot ceilings are perfect for hanging art or collections, while the eight-foot windows frame views of the Hudson River. Other loft features include on-site laundry and individual air-conditioning and heating systems.
West End Lofts connects Hudson Valley artists of all kinds to bounce ideas off each other and create a sense of community. Residents can head to the lounges or one of the three community rooms, which have computers, performance practice space, or collaborative areas to start new projects. For later on in the artistic process, there’s even a space for residents to share their hard work.
"[West End Lofts] is unique and innovative because it provides a blend of affordable housing for artists, middle-income housing, and market-rate housing," says Sean Kearney of Kearney Realty & Development Group, the firm that oversees the property. "All of these [community] spaces have been designed in a way to not only assist the artists/creators in their craft, but also to encourage and promote collaboration."
With a primary location in downtown Beacon, the Lofts make it easy to explore the city with artistic pals. Graphic designers can head over to Bank Square Coffeehouse to work on their next piece, painters can enjoy the scenery at Long Dock Park while sketching out a new framework, and filmmakers can have their own adventure at the Doctor Who-themed restaurant The Pandorica. Beacon is a dream for creative professionals, with several renowned art galleries and Dia:Beacon, a 292,000-square-foot contemporary art museum by the Hudson River.

To apply, at least one household member per application must be certified by the Artist Certification Committee. In order to receive certification, individuals must complete the application form and provide the committee with an explanation as to how the Lofts will aid artistic pursuits, along with a resume, references, and relevant documents and portfolios.
Not an artist? Don’t worry. West End Lofts has 22 non-artist units which come with access to the creative spaces, too.
Artists spaces start at $715 a month for a one-bedroom and $855 for a two-bedroom. Non-artist units start at $1099 and $1315 per month, respectively.
