Where: Hartstone Inn. 41 Elm St., Camden, ME. 800-788-4823 or www.hartstoneinn.com

What’s special: This elegant, 1835 Mansard-style bed-and-breakfast delights gastronomes and amateur eaters alike (it did snag the American Culinary Federation’s Achievement of Excellence award for fine dining, after all). Its picturesque setting and gourmet cuisine made Hartstone a favorite culinary destination of Julia Child, who celebrated her 89th birthday there. And American Historic Inns didn’t name it a Top 10 Romantic Inn this year for nothing; each guest room features feather beds, fine linens, Wi-Fi, and original artwork. (Some rooms also have Jacuzzi baths, fireplaces, and lace canopy beds.) The property has received Wine Spectator magazine’s Award of Excellence for the past seven years. Indulge with afternoon wine and cheese pairings and a five-course dinner menu featuring market-fresh ingredients.

A hop, skip, and jump away is Camden’s harbor; its fleet of historic Windjammers are prepped to take guests on tours of lighthouses, marine wildlife, and secluded islands. Kayak on Penobscot Bay; play a round at a world-class golf course; savor works by 18th- and 19th-century artists at the Farnsworth Art Museum; or take a ferry to the artist colony on Monhegan Island. The trails at nearby Camden Hills State Park are perfect for hiking; or, if you’re feeling hungry, see why the park has been dubbed a “mushroom mecca”: join Hartstone’s guides on a two-hour search for delicious mushrooms.

The deal: This package includes two nights of accommodations in a traditional room, an afternoon of mushroom foraging, lobster picnic lunch, breakfasts, and a romantic five-course feast for two. This package is $550 per couple.
