What’s special: Built in 1869 on the water of Lake Mohonk and tucked away at the top of the Shawangunk Ridge, this grand 267-room Victorian castle is one of America’s oldest family-owned resorts. Just 90 minutes north of New York City, it offers thousands of acres of pristine forest; an array of activities including golf, tennis, rock climbing, mountain biking, boating, fishing, and swimming; 85-miles of hiking trails; a kids’ club; and a spa. It is a Full American Plan resort that provides three meals and afternoon tea and cookies. The meals also offer vegetarian and “Sound Choice” items appealing to health-conscious guests.
The deal: “Seasonal Bounty Getaways” packages: During July, the “Bountiful Blueberry Getaway” offers a welcome gift of blueberry jam, along with a list of Mohonk hiking trails to pick wild blueberries and special blueberry dishes — including muffins, vinaigrettes, sorbet and more. Come back in August, when raspberries take the spotlight. Mid-week (Sun.-Thurs.) prices start at $199 per night per person for the Blueberry Getaway and $255 for the Raspberry Getaway. This is a savings of up to 35 percent! Readers of Hudson Valley Magazine also receive a photo album with an etched silver-plated cover.
When: Valid Jul.-Aug. 2010
